Aboriginal HELP Talks
April 19, 2016, 9:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., Sty-Wet-Tan Hall, UBC First Nations Longhouse, 1985 West Mall, Vancouver, BC
Please join us for presentation sessions themed around Aboriginal culture, language, and identity and the Early Development Instrument (EDI) research.
The day will open with an introduction by Dr. Linc Kesler (Director, UBC First Nations House of Learning). Following this, HELP Aboriginal Steering Committee member Diana Elliott (Provincial Advisor, Aboriginal Infant Development Programs of B.C.) will facilitate a hands-on, small group workshop on the EDI’s social-emotional questions and Cowichan Elders’ teachings. The First Peoples Cultural Council (FPCC) will also present on their language revitalization initiatives and mapping work. The day will close with a presentation by UBC students Rebecca Lahr, Saguna Shankar and Michelle Kaczmarek related to HELP's Aboriginal Language Project.
